Veterans receive Quilts of Honor

Okeechobee News - 5/25/2018

On Saturday, May 19, Freedom Ranch hosted its eighth annual Veterans Appreciation Day ceremony on National Armed Forces Day in Okeechobee County. This year, four deputies from the Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) received a Quilt of Honor.

Quilts of Honor is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing healing, loving and patriotic quilts to those who have served in harm's way. The organization was formed in April 2010, when the passion and mission for providing comfort and healing to veterans had grown with several quilts being presented over the years.

Quilts of Honor are handmade by countless volunteers who wish to thank service members and to honor their service and sacrifice.

Four OCSO deputies received a quilt made especially for them. Receiving their quilts were Deputies Jack Nash, Quinton Speed and Lieutenant Shane Snyder. Deputy Steven Pollock was unable to attend the ceremony but was given his quilt at a later time.

It was a great experience attending this year and to hear a few stories from some of the veterans. Listening to these men and women and what they endured makes you stop and give thanks for the freedoms we have today.

To all veterans, thank you for your service!
