Mental illness, drug abuse or both?

Suncoast Institute on Chemical Dependency will sponsor a special program Tuesday, Jan. 23, 5:30-7:15 p.m., at Gulf Gate Library, Sarasota, on mental disorders and substance-use disorders occurring together; signs and symptoms of these co-occurring disorders; disentangling the symptoms for an appropriate diagnosis; treatment and recovery options; and how families, churches and communities can help.

The guest speaker is Maribeth McDermott, M.S., L.M.H.C., of Samaritan Counseling Services. The program begins with refreshments at 5:30 p.m., followed by the presentation and discussion at 6 p.m.

Suncoast Institute on Chemical Dependency is a faith-based, not-for-profit 501(c)3 corporation founded by a group of concerned clinicians, clergy and individuals with addicted loved ones for the purpose of providing addiction education.
